Abstract

Introduction: Sino-Russian cultural cooperation is an integral part of the development of Sino-Russian bilateral relations, which together with political mutual trust, economic and trade cooperation constitute the three pillars of Sino-Russian relations. At this stage of the international political and economic crisis, in particular, after China's "Belt and Road" initiative was put forward, new breakthroughs have been made in the areas of bilateral humanities cooperation and in the regions participating in cooperation. They are playing an increasingly important role in promoting mutual understanding between the two nations and consolidating China-Russia relations. At present and in the future, there is also an urgent need to find out the problems that restrict the development of Sino-Russian cultural cooperation.

Methodology. This paper considers the situation of modern historiography in the field of raising the question: world literature has no clear explanation of the concept of "cultural cooperation". This study is based on the concept that cultural cooperation is regarded as a basic principle of foreign policy of all countries. This scientific method can analyze the actions of the political leaders of the two countries, take into account the challenges of the times, determine what new institutions and practices have emerged, and determine the role of China's traditional forms of cultural cooperation and Russia's feedback. Within the accepted conceptual framework, the retrospective analysis takes into account two levels of cooperation in the field of cultural – the national level and the regional level.

Research results. Cultural exchanges and cooperation are an important part of the history of Sino Russian relations. As a part of the "Belt and Road" initiative, especially after the launch of a series of activities of the year of interregional cooperation and exchange (2018), the depth and breadth of Sino Russian cultural cooperation have significantly expanded, with more and more cooperation platforms emerging in endlessly, levels constantly improving, and fruitful results. It has also become a catalyst for the in-depth development of bilateral relations under the background of the epidemic. In the future, its role in promoting bilateral relations and economic cooperation will continue to strengthen, and the cooperation mechanisms and fields will continue to be updated.
